Release Party! QUIET KIDS by Christine Fonseca

Today I'm helping fellow Bookanista Christine celebrate the release of her newest nonfiction title: QUIET KIDS. As an introverted writer, I can DEFINITELY see the value of this book...and wish it had been around when *I* was a quiet kid!

I'm going to turn over this post to Christine, so she can tell you more about the book - and her awesome giveaway! Take it away, Christine!

I am so happy to announce the official release of my book, Quiet Kids. This book, in addition to being the book I wish I had read as a child, speaks to introversion in children, pulling on the latest research in the area and providing parents and educators strategies to help support introverted children. As most of you know, my writing career started with my books related to gifted children, and while not all gifted children are introverted, a quiet temperament does dominate that particular subgroup of children. Quiet Kids looks at what it means to be introverted in today's noisy world.

Here is the description of the book:

Being an introverted child is difficult, especially in an ever-increasingly noisy world. Often viewed as aloof, unmotivated or conceited, introverted children are deeply misunderstood by parents, educators and even their peers. That's where Quiet Kids: Helping Your Introverted Child Succeed in an Extroverted World comes in. Designed to provide parents with a blueprint for not only understanding the nature of introversion, Quiet Kids provides specific strategies to teach their children how to thrive in a world that may not understand them. Presented in an easy-to-read, conversational style, the book uses real-world examples and stories from introverts and parents to show parents and educators how to help children develop resiliency and enhance the positive qualities of being an introvert. With specific strategies to address academic performance, bullying, and resiliency, Quiet Kids is a must read for anyone wishing to enhance the lives of introverted children.

QK - BNPublisher's Weekly was kind enough to call the book "Extremely useful for educators and parents, this thoughtful text emphasizes the many gifts of quiet kids.”

Quiet Kids can be found in Barnes and Noble stores across the United States, as well as online at Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Walmart and other retailers world wide.

As part of the launch of Quiet Kids, I developed a little quiz to help you know if you may have an introvert in the house:

    1. My child prefers to spend time alone or reading after school? T/F
    2. My child is generally quiet? T/F
    3. Teachers often characterize my child as shy? T/F
    4. I often worry that my child has very few friends? T/F
    5. My children struggles when things are not part of a routine or predictable? T/F

A yes answer to most of these questions may indicate that your child has an introverted temperament. I also have a special giveaway to celebrate the launch:

    a Rafflecopter giveaway

THANK YOU for the support of this important book. Be sure to check out the events page on my website to see what other fun things I have planned.

Thanks, Christine! Be sure to check out a copy of QUIET KIDS!

I always love to hear what people have to say about my books! Reviews are an important part of any author's sales "pitch" to potential readers. If you read and reviewed By Blood or Moon Child on Amazon and/or Goodreads, I would love to thank you for sharing your thoughts about the book! Just post a link to the review in the comments and I'll send you a signed, paperback, PRE-RELEASE copy of my next novel SHATTERED VEIL (Feb 2014) this fall. (If you haven't read By Blood or Moon Child yet, not to worry! The giveaway runs until the end of the tour, Oct 4, so you've got lots of time to read and review, if you choose. :-))

What is SHATTERED VEIL, you ask?

    WELL. Thanks for asking! ;-)

It is the first book in my new NA scifi series! Here's the quick and dirty:

When the man she loves is Selected for Military and sent to war, Aris Haan gives up everything - her home, her name, even her face - to be with him, only to discover that her new role as a Military Flyer has much larger implications - it could change the fate of her entire nation.

    Sound interesting? :-)

    More about that soon!

In the meantime, good luck in the giveaway, and thanks so much for checking out the By Blood series! If you'd like more info on new releases, contests, and other fun stuff, be sure to sign up for my newsletter (sign-up to the right)!

    The Big Reveal

Well, this is what I've been talking about for last it's time to unveil the new and improved cover of By Blood!! YAY!!! :-D

First, as a refresher, here's the description:

For 17-year-old Emma Wong, spending a summer in England should be a dream come true. Gorgeous scenery? Check. Lots of hot guys with accents? Yes, please.

Throw in an estranged mom, annoying new stepdad, and drooling baby half-brother, and it’s a disaster even her favorite cherry red leather jacket can’t fix. Even worse, there’s (hot) live-in research assistant Josh to contend with. The only thing more embarrassing than drunk-kissing him hours after they meet? Knowing he’ll be witness to her family’s dysfunction all. summer. long.

But when Emma meets a mysterious girl who happens to be a Druid, her vacation suddenly promises to be far more intriguing than she anticipated. Powerful rituals, new friends, an intoxicating sense of freedom...and Simon, the sexy foreign stranger she was hoping for. It’s all a perfect distraction from dirty diapers and awkward family dinners.

Trouble is, intriguing doesn’t often mean simple. And Emma is about to discover just how not simple her life really is.

By Blood is a novel about the ways that blood can bind us to others – or tear us apart.

And now...for the pretty new cover! :-D

Yay!! I think Regina of Mae I Design did an AMAZING job!! What do you think?

Here's what the full wrap looks like...yes, By Blood is now available in paperback!

Guys, I am so in love with this cover! I think it does a great job of encapsulating the spooky, mysterious vibe of Emma's Druid adventures - and check out that cherry red leather jacket! It's Emma, through and through. I couldn't be happier and hope you like it!

Xpresso Book Tours is helping me spread the word about By Blood's paperback release and snazzy new part of the blitz we're hosting a giveaway! Yay!! Everybody likes free stuff, right? Well, enter below and you could win a signed paperback of By Blood PLUS a $50 Amazon gift card OR a signed By Blood PLUS a selection of awesome YA reads (all hardcover - check out the full list in the "terms and conditions" section of the contest)!

    a Rafflecopter giveaway

Check back here later in the week - I'll be posting links to other blogs that are featuring By Blood - there will be some fun guest posts and excerpts floating around the interwebz over the next couple of weeks.

Thanks for stopping by for the big reveal...I hope you like the new cover!! Hit the comments and let me know what you think! :-)

Brand New Bookanistas! is a very, very exciting day! We're celebrating the start of summer and another great beginning: THE RELAUNCH OF THE BOOKANISTAS! New members, new logo, new website design and a whole lot more of the book love we all adore! First, our gorgeous new logo!

And click here to check out the revamped gorgeousness that is the new site!

School's just about done and that means it's time to pack up the beach towel, boogie board, and book! There's no better way to relax after a tough year than by floating away into the pages of a fantastic story. I don't know about you, but every summer I love to take a little time to savor old favorites. In fact, I have a couple of books I read every single summer - when I go to my family's cabin in Canada. These books live up there in that cabin, and every summer when I unpack my suitcase, I glance up at the bookshelf and greet them, my old friends.

What are these well-loved and dog-eared books, you ask? Well, my favorite is:

Fire in the Mist, by Holly Lisle

    From Goodreads:

From the author whom Mercedes Lackey calls "one of the hottest writers I've come across in a long time", comes a mesmerizing, action-filled story. A simple shepherd girl discovers her wild mage powers after a murderous magician destroys her family. Now every mage in the world wants to train her. But Faia wants only to confront the madman who killed her loved ones.

Honestly, this has got to be one of my favorite books of all time. Maybe because I've read it like 15-20 times, I don't know. But if you like fantasy, strong female characters, and amusing dialogue, I highly recommend it.

Of course, summer is also a great time for discovering NEW favorites. Here are a few books I'm excited to read in the coming months!

Jump When Ready, by David Pandolfe

    From Goodreads:

Since he drowned, Henry has remained with the same group of teenagers and he keeps wondering why. After all, what could he possibly have in common with a Mohawk-sporting punker from the 80s, a roller skater from the 70s with a thing for kimonos, and an English "rocker" from the 60s? Add to that, Henry can hear the other groups but he never sees them. Soon, Henry learns that his new friends all possess unique skills for making themselves noticed by the living. Is Henry’s group kept isolated because of their abilities? If so, are they considered gifted or seen only as a potential bad influence?

Before Henry can reach any conclusions, he witnesses his sister being kidnapped. He knows who did it, where she’s being held and what will happen if the kidnappers don’t get what they want. As the police chase false leads, Henry comes to realize that he’s his sister’s only hope. But for Henry to even have a chance, he has to convince a group of teenagers that dead doesn’t mean helpless.

I've actually already started this one, and it's great! Look for my review in a couple of weeks. :-)

    3:59, by Gretchen McNeil

    From Goodreads:

Josie Byrne's life is spiraling out of control. Her parents are divorcing, her boyfriend Nick has grown distant, and her physics teacher has it in for her. When she's betrayed by the two people she trusts most, Josie thinks things can't get worse.

Until she starts having dreams about a girl named Jo. Every night at the same time—3:59 a.m.

Jo's life is everything Josie wants: she's popular, her parents are happily married, and Nick adores her. It all seems real, but they're just dreams, right? Josie thinks so, until she wakes one night to a shadowy image of herself in the bedroom mirror – Jo.

Josie and Jo realize that they are doppelgängers living in parallel universes that overlap every twelve hours at exactly 3:59. Fascinated by Jo's perfect world, Josie jumps at the chance to jump through the portal and switch places for a day.

But Jo’s world is far from perfect. Not only is Nick not Jo's boyfriend, he hates her. Jo's mom is missing, possibly insane. And at night, shadowy creatures feed on human flesh.

By the end of the day, Josie is desperate to return to her own life. But there’s a problem: Jo has sealed the portal, trapping Josie in this dangerous world. Can she figure out a way home before it’s too late?

From master of suspense Gretchen McNeil comes a riveting and deliciously eerie story about the lives we wish we had – and how they just might kill you.

Last summer, when I was at that cabin in Canada, I read Gretchen's Ten. With the lights on. In daylight. So it's only fitting that I check out her latest suspenseful read there THIS summer! (with the lights on. in daylight.) ;-)

Actually, you know, now that I'm putting together this list, I'm realizing how many amazing stories await me in my TBR pile! IMPOSTOR by Susanne Winnacker, TOUCHING THE SURFACE by Kimberly Sabatini, LET THE SKY FALL by Shannon Messenger, THE ARCHIVED by Victoria Schwab, STRANDS OF BRONZE AND GOLD by Jane Nickerson....oh my gosh, and that's only the beginning! So...this post is about the BOOKANISTAS, not my towering pile of books to read. To celebrate all the awesomeness that is this amazing group of writers, librarians, mothers, badass chicks, etc., we are hosting an INCREDIBLE giveaway that, WHOA. Check it out!

    Exciting News!

So, as I've mentioned in the past, BY BLOOD is going to be getting a perty new cover for its paperback release this summer. I am SOOOO excited about that (and can't wait to share it with you!). Well, along with that, I have something really, really awesome to share. That new cover is going to feature my very first author endorsement!

Susanne Winnacker, author of THE OTHER LIFE and the forthcoming IMPOSTOR (more about that in a minute) had this to say about BY BLOOD:

"By Blood effortlessly transports you to the cobblestone streets and small pubs of Oxford, and Emma’s sassy voice pulls you right into the story with its hot British boys and touch of magic. A must read!”

AHHHHHH!!!! Isn't that amazing? The warm and fuzzies, they will not stop!! :-DDD

I can't wait to share the new cover with you (keep an eye out next month!) but in the meantime, I highly recommend that you take a gander at IMPOSTOR, which comes out in TEN DAYS!! Here are some deets:

    From Goodreads:

Can Tessa pose as Madison . . . and stop a killer before it’s too late?

Tessa is a Variant, able to absorb the DNA of anyone she touches and mimic their appearance. Shunned by her family, she’s spent the last two years training with the Forces with Extraordinary Abilities, a secret branch of the FBI. When a serial killer rocks a small town in Oregon, Tessa is given a mission: she must impersonate Madison, a local teen, to find the killer before he strikes again.

Tessa hates everything about being an impostor—the stress, the danger, the deceit—but loves playing the role of a normal girl. As Madison, she finds friends, romance, and the kind of loving family she’d do anything to keep. Amid action, suspense, and a ticking clock, this super-human comes to a very human conclusion: even a girl who can look like anyone struggles the most with being herself.

Sounds amazing, right? It is! I had the opportunity to read an early version of this and it had me on the edge of my seat. I can't wait to pick up my "official" copy and read it again!

You can preorder your copy now here! :-) And add it to your Goodreads shelf here!

    Have a great weekend, everyone!

Oh, and if you haven't already, check out the giveaway that's still going on on Blkosiner's Book Blog...You could win a $10 Amazon gift card and copy of By Blood!
