By Blood is now an audiobook!

Happy Monday, lovely readers! I'm popping out of the revision cave for a moment to chat. The sequel to Rebel Wing is coming along nicely and I am hoping to soon have a title and cover to reveal! (I know the title. It's awesome. Yay! Sorry I can't share yet.) And mark your calendars, because the book itself will be arriving on Kindles everywhere in December (exact date to come very shortly!). I know those of you who read the original "Shattered Veil" version have been waiting a long time, and I'm very sorry for that. But I sincerely hope it'll be worth the wait...and I think I can say with full confidence that having the folks at Alloy helping me will only make it a much MUCH better book. In the meantime, if you haven't already, I recommend checking out the new version...a few of the minor characters' names changed and the ending's a bit different, which might make things a little confusing going into book 2.

Also, I'm super excited because By Blood is now available as an audiobook on Amazon, Audible, and iTunes! The fabulous Becca Ballenger brought Emma to life - as well as Josh, Ash, and Simon. She did a FABULOUS job with all the British dialects...if you've read the book, you know how much of a challenge that would be! I'm thrilled with how it turned out and hope you'll take a listen. You can get it FREE if you sign up for Audible, and if you already own the ebook, the audiobook is only $1.99 on Amazon. Which is CRAZY CHEAP! :-)

For those of you who may not be familiar with By Blood, here's a quick description:

For 17-year-old Emma Wong, spending a summer in England should be a dream come true. Gorgeous scenery? Check. Lots of hot guys with accents? Yes, please.

Spending two months with her mom, Dr. Mike (don’t call him her stepdad), and their pooping, puking infant son? Not what she had in mind. It’s a disaster even her favorite cherry red leather jacket can’t fix (leather and spit-up so do not mix).

Not only does she get put on diaper duty (gag), but there’s also Dr. Mike’s cute research assistant to contend with. The only thing more embarrassing than her trying to plant one on him hours after they meet? Knowing he’ll be a witness to her family’s dysfunction all. summer. long.

So when Emma meets a mysterious girl who happens to be a Druid, the summer suddenly promises to be far more intriguing than she expected. Powerful rituals, new friends, an intoxicating sense of freedom...and Simon, the sexy foreign stranger she was hoping for. It’s all a perfect distraction from dirty diapers and awkward family dinners.

Trouble is, intriguing doesn’t often mean simple. And Emma is about to discover just how not simple her life really is.

The audiobook is available here on Amazon, Audible, and iTunes.

And click here for more info on the fabulous narrator, Becca Ballenger. She's so talented!

Cheers for now! Hoping I'll have some exciting Rebel Wing sequel stuff to share soon!

Rebel Wing Gets a New Face!

Heya! Sorry it's been ages since I blogged - I've been hard at work on the sequel to REBEL WING, which should be coming out in December! My deadline for this round of edits is Monday so I'm still in the thick of it, but I wanted to pop in to announce that REBEL WING has a gorgeous new cover!

Eee!! I love it so much! I loved the last one too, but I think this one fits the vibe of the book a little better. While it IS scifi, the heart of the story is about a girl making big choices for love...and realizing there's more to fight for. I love the couple on this cover - to me they're totally Aris and Calix standing on the cliffs of Lux before he's sent to war. The sunset is beautiful but ominous too, which fits the story perfectly.

I hope you like it! And if you're a Prime member on Amazon, you can now get REBEL WING for FREE! Click here to download your copy!

    The Story Behind the Story

Phew! It's been a busy week! Between celebrating the big REBEL WING launch, and frantically trying to finish the first draft of its sequel (I have DEADLINES now, y'all!), I feel like the proverbial headless chicken. But I wanted to take a minute and tell you a little more about how my book deal came about, because folks have been asking...and it's a fun story. :-)

First of all, a little recap of my publishing journey to date: back in 2009, I wrote Moon Child. Found representation pretty quickly with a wonderful agent, but it didn't sell. Wrote By Blood. Same result, though we got REALLY REALLY close. MAJOR HOTSAUCE was deployed in summer of 2010. That fall, I wrote Shattered Veil, which was in part inspired by his deployment...and a great bonding experience while he was away. He helped me with a lot of the military scenes and political maneuvering. I thought this book was special. We fantasized about it selling big. Being a movie one day. When I submitted it to my agent, she suggested some pretty big changes that I didn't feel 100% comfortable with. But I desperately wanted THIS one to sell, so I made the changes. sale. Fast forward a few years, LOTS of revisions, a little more when I went indie. I started with my earlier series - I wanted to test the waters before putting Shattered Veil out in the world. And I needed time to revise it make it the story I really wanted to tell. In February 2014, Shattered Veil was finally published.

One Thursday in April, as I was knee-deep in writing the sequel (MAJOR HOTSAUCE was on toddler duty), I got two odd follows on Twitter, one after another. "Odd" because editors at publishing houses don't normally follow ME. Then, DING! An email through my blog. From a senior editor at Alloy Entertainment. Even though I'd heard of the company (they've been on my radar since the '90s - I was an original fan of L.J. Smith and The Vampire Diaries!), I was pretty sure it was spam. Because, um, the editor was raving about my book. MY book. She even used the word "obsessed". But I thought...okay....and opened an email to reply. Why not see what this was about? Before I had time to finish the email, three more messages dinged through my blog. Apparently the editor was getting an error message from the submission page. And then....a twitter DM. Wow, this person REALLY wanted to talk to me! So I sent the email.

When she replied immediately and asked if we could talk on the phone, I couldn't hold back the tummy flutters anymore. And by the end of that conversation (which I'm pretty sure I'll never forget), those flutters were full-on BATS. Because OH MY GOSH ALLOY ENTERTAINMENT WANTS TO BUY MY BOOK.

Not just my book. THREE BOOKS. They ended up buying the whole trilogy.

Guys, that day was everything I could have hoped for. It's what I had been working towards for years, the culmination of a life of writing into the void. Only it was BETTER than I imagined. Submitting to traditional publishers feels a lot like begging someone to like you. You send your stuff to them, hoping they'll deign to read it. Hoping they'll connect with it. Hoping they'll invest in you. Five years of submission is a lot of begging. And, when it happened, these wonderful kindred spirit editors actually CAME TO ME. No begging, except maybe a little on their part. ;-) The reversal was so incredibly unexpected, and so unbelievably welcome.

Ever since that day in April, every time I think about it I get chills. Someone read my book. Someone loved my book. Someone at ALLOY ENTERTAINMENT, the company responsible for most of my favorite TV shows. THIS WAS BIG.

It still feels big. And not because of sales or the fact that, after all these years, there's a (teeny tiny) chance Rebel Wing COULD become a movie. It feels big because of Lanie and Eliza, my editors. They LOVED this story. They read this story about eight times in all its iterations. They had hour-long conversations with me about the characters as if they were real people. They helped me make this story EVEN BETTER. (For those wondering, yes, REBEL WING *is* different from the previously indie published version. The plot stays the same, for the most part, but we did a ton of work on pacing, world building, etc., to help clarify and streamline everything. If you've read Shattered Veil, the new version is worth a read, especially if you plan to check out book 2, as some of the character names changed).

Lanie and Eliza's passion for this project, and their insightful feedback, was exactly why I'd originally pursued traditional publishing in the first place. I wanted to be part of a publishing TEAM. And let me tell you, I hit the jackpot as far as teams go.

Back in June, I had the opportunity to visit a dear friend in NYC (hi Helo!! *waves*) and while there I also got to meet Lanie and Eliza in real life. It was AMAZING. Here's the photographic proof - check out our goofy grins.

(Also, they have really pretty hair, don't they?)

Suffice to say, the last few months have been a whirlwind, and it was SO HARD keeping quiet about everything. I'm so so excited that REBEL WING is out in the world...and that I can now sing Lanie and Eliza's (and Alloy and Amazon's) praises publicly. Yay!

If YOU are interested in working with Alloy, here's more information on their submission guidelines.

My book was bought by Alloy Entertainment!!

FINALLY!!!!! I can spill my freaking awesome news! WHOO HOOOO!!!!!! So here it is....

Shattered Veil was bought by Alloy Entertainment! Here's the official press release (because I've never been in a press release before! Whee!!):

Alloy Entertainment Launches New Digital-First Imprint with Amazon Publishing

    First three books release today

SEATTLE—(NASDAQ: AMZN)—July 29, 2014—Today, Amazon Publishing and Alloy Entertainment, a division of Warner Bros. Television Group, announced a digital-first imprint that will focus on young adult, new adult and commercial fiction. The new imprint, named Alloy Entertainment, will be part of Amazon Publishing’s Powered by Amazon program. Powered by Amazon enables publishers and authors to leverage Amazon’s global distribution and personalized, targeted marketing reach.

Today also marks the publication date for the imprint’s first three titles:

    • Imitation by Heather Hildenbrand, which follows Ven, the clone of a wealthy, 18-year-old named Raven. Imitations like Ven only leave the lab when their Authentics need them—to replace the dead, be an organ donor, or in Ven’s case, serve as bait when Raven’s life is threatened. It is Ven’s job to draw out Raven’s assailants, but she must decide if she is prepared to sacrifice herself for a girl she has never met.

    • Every Ugly Word by Aimee Salter, a coming-of-age story about a teenager named Ashley who sees her 23-year-old self when she looks in the mirror. Her older self has been through it all before, and helps Ashley survive torment from high school bullies, unrequited love for her best friend and a volatile relationship with her mom. But her older self also carries the scars of a terrible and imminent event in Ashley’s life that she’s powerless to stop.

    • Rebel Wing by Tracy Banghart, a sci-fi fantasy adventure set in the war-torn Dominion of Atalanta. For Aris, the fighting is worlds away from the safety of her seaside town until her boyfriend Calix is drafted into the military. When Aris herself is recruited to become a pilot for an elite search-and-rescue unit, she leaps at the chance, hoping to be reunited with Calix. But what starts as mission driven by love turns into one of duty as Aris becomes a true soldier determined to save her Dominion...or die trying.

Alloy Entertainment acquired the books based on the unique voices of the authors and originality of the stories. The company worked closely with each of the writers throughout the publishing process in an effort to gain the widest possible readership. The books will be published under the Alloy Entertainment publishing banner, which currently includes more than 75 New York Times bestsellers.

“One of our strengths is working with talented authors to create and develop properties that have mass entertainment appeal,” said Leslie Morgenstein, President of Alloy Entertainment. “This program is an exciting extension of our business and will allow us to leverage Amazon’s ability to distribute to an incredibly diverse and broad readership.”

"Rebel Wing is the book of my heart. It’s a story I felt compelled to tell, both from the perspective of an Army wife and as someone who believes you can never have enough strong female characters in the world," said author Tracy Banghart. "Being given the opportunity to work with the incredibly talented folks at Alloy to make it the best version of itself was an exciting and affirming process, and knowing that its distribution will be handled by Amazon—a company that has already made so much possible for me as an indie author—is pretty much the definition of win-win as far as I’m concerned."

“Alloy has a tremendous track record developing stories, like Gossip Girl, Pretty Little Liars and The Vampire Diaries, that our customers love,” said Jeff Belle, Vice President of Amazon Publishing. “We’re thrilled to promote these books from Alloy Entertainment with our Powered by Amazon program. It’s a great fit.”

Authors who publish with Alloy Entertainment’s new digital-first imprint receive an advance and royalties paid on a monthly basis. Alloy Entertainment will also look for opportunities to develop acquired titles as television series, feature films, and digital entertainment.

    YA Scifi Adventure

“I've never been actively jealous of a fictional character .  . . until now. Aris's adventures set my imagination on fire, and made my heart take flight.” ~Kass Morgan, author of New York Times bestseller The 100

The Dominion of Atalanta is at war. But for eighteen-year-old Aris, the fighting is nothing more than a distant nightmare, something she watches on news vids from the safety of her idyllic seaside town. Then her boyfriend, Calix, is drafted into the Military, and the nightmare becomes a dangerous reality.
Left behind, Aris has nothing to fill her days. Even flying her wingjet—the thing she loves most, aside from Calix—feels meaningless without him by her side. So when she’s recruited to be a pilot for an elite search-and-rescue unit, she leaps at the chance, hoping she’ll be stationed near Calix. But there’s a catch: She must disguise herself as a man named Aristos. There are no women in the Atalantan Military, and there never will be.

Aris gives up everything to find Calix: her home. Her family. Even her identity. But as the war rages on, Aris discovers she’s fighting for much more than her relationship. With each injured person she rescues and each violent battle she survives, Aris is becoming a true soldier—and the best flyer in the Atalantan Military. She’s determined to save her Dominion . . . or die trying.

    About Me

Award-winning author, Army wife, and mom Tracy Banghart has an MA in Publishing and an unhealthy affection for cupcakes. Her quiet childhood led to a reading addiction, writing obsession, and several serious book boyfriends. Rebel Wing is her third novel.  She can be found at

    By Aimee L. Salter

When seventeen-year-old Ashley Watson walks through the halls of her high school, bullies taunt and shove her. She can’t go a day without fighting with her mother. And no matter how hard she tries, she can’t make her best friend, Matt, fall in love with her. But Ashley also has something no one else does: a literal glimpse into the future. When Ashley looks into the mirror, she can see her twenty-three-year-old self.

Her older self has been through it all already—she endured the bullying, survived the heartbreak, and heard every ugly word her classmates threw at her. But her older self is also keeping a dark secret: Something terrible is about to happen to Ashley. Something that will change her life forever. Something even her older self is powerless to stop.

Perfect for fans of Thirteen Reasons Why and The List, Every Ugly Word is a gripping and emotional story about the devastating consequences of bullying.

    About Aimee

Aimee L. Salter lives in Southern Oregon with her husband and son. She writes novels for teens and the occasional adult who, like herself, is still in touch with their inner-high schooler. She never stopped appreciating those moments in the dark when you say what you're really thinking. And she'll always ask you about the things you wish she wouldn't.

Aimee blogs for both writers and readers at You can also find her on Twitter and Facebook.

Every Ugly Word is her debut novel.

    By Heather Hildenbrand

Everyone is exactly like me. There is no one like me.

Ven wrestles with these contradicting truths every day. A clone of wealthy eighteen-year-old Raven Rogen, Ven knows everything about the girl she was created to serve: the clothes she wears, the boys she loves, the friends she loves to hate. Yet she’s never met the Authentic Raven face-to-face. Imitations like Ven only get to leave the lab when they’re needed—to replace a dead Authentic, donate an organ, or complete a specific mission. And Raven has never needed Ven . . . until now.

When there is an attack on Raven’s life, Ven is thrust into the real world, posing as Raven to draw out the people who tried to harm her. But as Ven dives deeper into Raven’s world, she begins to question everything she was ever told. She exists for Raven, but is she prepared to sacrifice herself for a girl she’s never met?

Fans of Cinder, The Selection and Sara Shepard’s Lying Game series will love Imitation, a thrilling, action-packed novel sure to keep readers guessing until the very last page.

    About Heather

Heather Hildenbrand was born and raised in a small town in northern Virginia where she was homeschooled through high school. She now lives in coastal VA, a few miles from the Atlantic Ocean, with her two adorable children. She works from home, part time, as a property manager and when she's not furiously pounding at the keyboard, or staring off into space whilst plotting a new story, she's lying on the beach, soaking in those delicious, pre-cancerous rays. Heather loves Mexican food, hates socks with sandals, and if her house was on fire, the one thing she'd grab is her DVR player. You can find out more about her and her books at

Heather is a co-founder of Accendo Press, a publishing group she operates with fellow authors: Angeline Kace and Jennifer Sommersby. Accendo (a-CH-endo), A Latin word, means “to kindle, illuminate, inflame, or set fire.” This is something Accendo strives to do inside a reader’s imagination with every title released.

Please join me, Aimee, and Heather, along with some other great YA authors for a Facebook party this afternoon to celebrate the big launch! And don't forget to enter the giveaway below!
